Dublin: Countries around the world have joined in St. Patrick’s Day festivities, with iconic landmarks illuminated in green as part of the annual global celebration of Irish culture.
Famous sites including the CN Tower, Sky Tower, and Niagara Falls were among those lit up, creating striking displays to mark the occasion.
Other internationally recognised landmarks such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Empire State Building, and the Cibeles Fountain also joined the “greening” tradition.
New Additions to the ‘Greening’ Initiative
This year saw several new landmarks participate, including the Jelling Stones and the Bergisel Ski Jump, further expanding the global reach of the celebrations.
Boost for Irish Tourism
Tourism Ireland Chief Executive Alice Mansergh said the festival offers a unique platform to promote Ireland internationally.
She highlighted the importance of tourism to the Irish economy, noting that around 10% of jobs on the island are linked to tourism and hospitality, with a significant proportion dependent on international visitors.
Dublin Parade Preparations
Meanwhile, international media organisations have arrived in Ireland to broadcast and stream the celebrations worldwide.
In Dublin, An Garda Síochána has announced traffic diversions along the North Circular Road and South Circular Road to facilitate crowd management and ensure public safety during the St Patrick’s Day parade.
