Dublin: Heavy rain is continuing across Ireland, with the national weather service warning that wet and unsettled conditions could persist into the afternoon.
An orange rain warning is currently in place for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork and Waterford, while a yellow weather warning covers much of the rest of the country.
The yellow warning, which came into effect at 4am, is due to remain in place until 11am. It covers 20 counties across Leinster and Munster, as well as Cavan and Monaghan.
The national weather service is forecasting periods of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds during the warning period.
It has warned of localised flooding, poor visibility and disruption to travel, particularly in areas experiencing the heaviest rainfall.
The combination of high tides, rising sea levels and strong winds could also result in large waves crashing onto the southern and south-eastern coasts.
