The Indian women’s hockey team claimed the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024 title with a hard-fought 1-0 victory against the People’s Republic of China at the Rajgir Hockey Stadium, Bihar. Deepika (31’) scored the decisive goal, finishing as the tournament’s top scorer with 11 goals.
This win marks India’s third Asian Champions Trophy title, equalling the Republic of Korea as the most successful team in the competition’s history. India had previously won in 2016 and 2023.
The final saw a competitive first half, with both world No. 9 India and sixth-ranked China creating chances but failing to convert, thanks to strong defensive displays and goalkeeping. India broke the deadlock early in the second half when Deepika capitalised on a missed penalty corner setup by Navneet Kaur, turning sharply to score.
Deepika had an opportunity to double the lead with a penalty stroke but was denied by China’s goalkeeper, Li Ting. Despite the missed chance, India’s defence remained resolute, securing a fifth consecutive clean sheet and sealing the title.
Earlier, Japan defeated Malaysia 4-1 to secure third place in the tournament.
