Intel to Cut Over 20% of Workforce Amid Major Restructuring Effort

Dublin: Intel is preparing to lay off more than 20% of its global workforce as part of a major restructuring initiative aimed at streamlining operations and reducing inefficiencies, according to Bloomberg News. The move marks the first significant action under new CEO Lip-Bu Tan, who is refocusing the company on engineering and accelerating its AI strategy.

The layoffs follow a previous reduction of 15% in 2024 and are part of a broader $10 billion cost-cutting plan. Tan has begun flattening Intel’s management structure, citing the need to address a sluggish and bureaucratic middle layer.

The company, which had nearly 109,000 employees globally at the end of 2024.
