Dublin: The Irish Government has officially authorised Santa Claus to fly through Irish airspace on Christmas Eve, continuing a long-standing festive tradition. Taoiseach Micheál Martin confirmed in the Dáil that all necessary permissions have been granted to ensure Santa, Rudolph and the reindeer can deliver gifts to children across the country without disruption.
The light-hearted issue was raised by Aisling Dempsey TD (Meath West), who sought assurances that Irish airspace would remain open for what she described as Ireland’s “most important visitor” on December 24. She noted that while Ireland has welcomed many special visitors in 2025, Santa’s arrival remains the most eagerly anticipated, particularly for children in County Meath and nationwide.
In response, the Taoiseach said all relevant authorities, including the Minister for Transport, have been instructed to facilitate Santa’s journey. He confirmed that consultations had taken place with Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan, Minister Darragh O’Brien and Minister Seán Kenny to ensure smooth passage.
Mr Martin reassured families that the timing of Santa’s Christmas Eve flight has been agreed and that there would be no delays. He added that children across Ireland—including Deputy Dempsey’s children, Liam and Hannah—can expect Santa to arrive on time and with plenty of presents.
