Dublin: Ireland’s entrepreneurial landscape continues to thrive, with a significant increase in startup activity recorded in the first half of 2025. According to data from CRIF Vision-Net, 12,745 new companies were registered between January and June—representing a 9% rise compared to the same period last year.
This upward trend comes despite broader economic concerns, including rising inflation, cost-of-living pressures, and global trade uncertainties. The performance builds on a record-breaking year in 2024, during which 23,384 startups were established across the country.
Strong Growth Across Sectors and Regions
While the motor industry continues to lead in startup activity, significant growth has also been observed in the information technology, agriculture, and manufacturing sectors. This diversification reflects an expanding entrepreneurial ecosystem adapting to both market opportunities and emerging challenges.
Startups are no longer limited to major urban centres like Dublin and Cork. There has been a notable increase in new business registrations across all 22 counties, with particularly strong activity in Roscommon, Portlaoise, and Clare.
CRIF Vision-Net’s director highlighted a trend toward limited company formation over sole traderships, suggesting a shift toward more structured and scalable business models. However, the report also notes an increase in insolvencies, which experts say is not unexpected given ongoing economic volatility.
Many businesses are under intensifying pressure from high operational costs, inflation, and reduced consumer spending, forcing some to close or restructure.
Despite these challenges, the consistent rise in startups suggests strong entrepreneurial confidence and a resilient business environment. Ireland continues to position itself as a favourable location for innovation and new enterprise, supported by its pro-business policies, global connectivity, and growing demand for tech and sustainable solutions.
