Dublin: Galway has become home to Ireland’s first solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging station, with the launch of the Westside EV Charging Hub. Officially opened by Mayor Mike Cubbard and Minister of State Seán Canney, the hub is powered primarily by solar energy, supported by battery storage and grid backup.
Funded by Zero Emissions Vehicles Ireland and the Department of Transport, the project aims to offer sustainable, free solar-powered charging to the public. ePower, the selected supplier, delivered and commissioned the fast charger based on its quality support, maintenance, and competitive pricing.
ePower CEO John O’Keeffe highlighted the hub as a model for combining renewable energy sources to create eco-friendly infrastructure. The company is also partnering with Dublin’s local authorities for Ireland’s largest rollout of fast-charging hubs, set to begin opening soon.
