Dublin: Ireland is celebrating a historic lottery win as the Irish National Lottery has confirmed that yesterday’s €250 million EuroMillions jackpot—one of the largest ever—was won by a ticket purchased in Ireland. The winning numbers were 13, 22, 23, 44, and 49, with Lucky Stars 3 and 5.
Speaking after the draw, National Lottery CEO Seán Murphy urged all players to check their tickets carefully, advising anyone in possession of the winning ticket to sign the back immediately, store it securely, and contact National Lottery headquarters without delay.
“This is a life-changing amount of money. While the winner may understandably be in shock, we encourage them to remain calm, seek independent legal and financial advice, and reach out to us as soon as possible,” Murphy said.
In addition to the main jackpot, a €500,000 EuroMillions Plus prize was also claimed in last night’s draw.
Ireland’s EuroMillions Legacy
Ireland has a strong history of major EuroMillions wins:
- Dolores McNamara, from Limerick, became Ireland’s first EuroMillions jackpot winner in 2005, claiming €115 million—then the largest ever lottery prize in Europe.
- In June 2009, a family syndicate in Dublin won €29.4 million, sharing the jackpot with a UK player.
- June 2013 saw a €187 million jackpot split between a Dublin ticket holder and another European player.
- In September 2013, a young man from the southeast of Ireland shared a €25 million jackpot, receiving over €12 million.
- A ticket sold in Castlebar, Co. Mayo, claimed a €15 million jackpot in April 2014.
- In September 2014, a Dublin syndicate won €86.7 million, with the ticket purchased at Centra in Ballybrack.
- January 2016 marked another milestone when a Carlow-based group of friends won over €66 million, splitting a €132 million jackpot.
This latest win once again places Ireland in the spotlight as a EuroMillions hotspot.
