LDA to Seek Approval for 285 Affordable Homes in Limerick Docklands

Dublin: The Land Development Agency (LDA) will submit plans for 285 affordable homes at The Gasworks site on Dock Road, Limerick, on land acquired from Gas Networks Ireland (GNI).

Project Details
The proposal includes 142 one-bed, 127 two-bed, and 16 three-bed apartments in three blocks up to eight storeys high, along with a public plaza, landscaped gardens, communal areas, play spaces, retail units, and a childcare facility. The site’s historic limestone wall will be preserved in the design.

Subject to planning approval, construction could begin in 2027. LDA CEO John Coleman said the scheme could “revitalise the area” and deliver much-needed affordable housing. GNI’s acting CEO Ronan Galwey praised the partnership as a model for unlocking public land potential.

Limerick Mayor John Moran welcomed the application, describing it as a key step in realising the Docklands’ potential for public benefit and adding to the city’s broader housing and infrastructure plans.
