Dublin: A man was arrested at Connolly Railway Station in Dublin yesterday evening after being found in possession of a firearm on a train. The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 PM aboard the Sligo-Dublin service.
While no passengers were harmed, the sight of the weapon caused alarm among those on board. Armed Gardaí responded promptly and apprehended the individual at Heuston Station. For public safety, the station was evacuated, and a thorough security sweep was conducted. After confirming there was no further threat to public safety, the station was reopened.

The incident left Dublin on edge for several hours, fuelled in part by rumours and misinformation circulating on social media. Gardaí have urged the public to exercise caution when sharing unverified information online.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed that the firearm has been seized and will undergo a full technical examination. They have appealed to anyone with relevant information to contact Garda Headquarters at 01 666 8000, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
Disruption to Rail Services
An Irish Rail spokesperson confirmed that train services to and from Connolly Station were temporarily suspended between 6:30 PM and 7:15 PM during the Garda operation. Normal service resumed shortly thereafter.
