Dublin: The Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Ireland has been lauded for its invaluable support to families with seriously ill children, as it prepares to open a new 52-bedroom facility beside the National Children’s Hospital in Dublin. The €28.47 million project, co-funded by RMHC (€10 million) and the HSE, will more than double the capacity of the current house at CHI Crumlin.
Over the next 25 years, RMHC Ireland will contribute over €66 million in capital and operational support, including gifting its current facility valued at €5 million to CHI.
Families like Jane O’Leary’s from Clare and Liam Crowley’s from West Cork, who stayed at the Crumlin house while their children underwent critical treatment, described the facility as a lifeline during their most difficult times. Both highlighted the emotional and practical support provided, with Ms. O’Leary calling the experience “priceless”.
The charity reported a total income of €3.9 million in 2024, with growing public and corporate support, including donations from McDonald’s Ireland and customers. Construction of the new facility began in March 2024, with completion expected by the end of the year.
