Dublin: Ryanair has revised its family seating policy following an investigation by the UK’s competition watchdog, announcing that parents will no longer have to pay an additional fee to sit with their young children on flights.
Under the updated policy, families travelling with children aged between two and 11 will be able to reserve adjacent seats without paying the previously mandatory family seating charge. However, the airline clarified that while the seat selection fee has been removed, the child’s airfare will still apply.
Previously, parents travelling with young children were required to purchase designated family seats, costing €9.28 per journey, to guarantee seats together or in close proximity.
The policy change comes after the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) launched an investigation earlier this month into whether Ryanair’s family seating charges complied with consumer protection laws.
