Dublin: Tallaght, Dublin, recorded the highest birth rate in Ireland in 2022, with 13.7 births per 1,000 residents, according to new data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
In contrast, Glenties in Co. Donegal had the lowest rate, with just 7.4 births per 1,000 residents. Dublin’s north inner city recorded the highest number of total births, welcoming 701 newborns in 2022.
National Trends and Fertility Rates
Ireland’s national birth rate stood at 10.2 per 1,000 people. Notably, 15 local areas recorded more deaths than births in 2022, a sharp rise from the previous average of three.
Enniscorthy, Newcastle West, Loughrea, Tramore-Waterford City West, and Moate recorded the highest general fertility rates, all above 52 per 1,000 women. Urban areas like Galway city and Dublin’s inner city zones had the lowest, with rates below 32.
