Dublin: Tesco Ireland has announced plans to open ten new stores across the country over the next 12 months, in a move that will create 400 new jobs and strengthen its presence in the Irish retail sector. The €40 million investment will include the development of both large-format supermarkets and smaller Express outlets.
The expansion will see the retailer increase its footprint to 193 stores nationwide. Roles on offer will include customer assistants, grocery home delivery drivers, and line managers, with recruitment already underway in some locations.
One of the largest additions will be Tesco’s new store in Fermoy, Co. Cork, scheduled to open at the end of July. The Fermoy location alone will employ 100 new staff. Additional stores are planned for Dublin, Galway, Louth, and Meath, with recruitment for the M1 Retail Park and Howth stores set to begin in the autumn.
With the latest expansion, Tesco Ireland’s permanent workforce will exceed 13,500 employees, reinforcing its position as one of the country’s leading private sector employers.
Jeff Byrne, CEO of Tesco Ireland, said the investment underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to Irish communities. “This expansion ensures that Tesco continues to lead both as a retailer and as an employer across Ireland,” he said.
Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Peter Burke welcomed the announcement, calling it “a significant boost for local economies and communities” and highlighting the positive impact on job creation and regional development.
