Dublin: Three software engineers based in Newbridge, Co. Kildare, have pleaded guilty to stealing over €3,500 worth of goods from Ikea’s Ballymun store across three separate incidents in January.
Monnisha Nimma (27), Sai Radhika Kavuri (32), and Sri Ravikiran Garimella (34) admitted to taking items without payment on January 11th, 18th, and 25th. Gardaí later recovered the majority of the stolen goods during a search of their shared residence, with the accused fully cooperating and admitting to the thefts.
The court heard that the trio, Indian nationals working full-time in Ireland on work visas, had no previous convictions and expressed deep remorse. Their solicitor described their actions as a “foolish mistake” that could jeopardise their future prospects, including their path to citizenship.
Due to the unusual cooperation and the value of the recovered goods, Judge Patricia Cronin agreed to consider a restorative justice approach, supported by Ikea. The case was adjourned to July for a probation report to assess their suitability for the programme, which could help them avoid a criminal conviction.
