Dublin: Gardaí have arrested two men who arrived in Dublin from Oslo, Norway, without valid travel documentation. The arrests were made by officers from the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) at Terminal 1 Arrivals around 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
The individuals, who identified themselves as Pal Singh (67) and Mitesh Singh (18) — purportedly a father and son from Afghanistan — were brought before Judge David McHugh at Dublin District Court. Both men were found to be without permanent addresses, passports, or any official documentation verifying their identities.
They have been charged under Section 11 of the Immigration Act, which pertains to unlawful entry into the state and carries a potential penalty of up to one year’s imprisonment.
Despite their shared surname “Singh”, Gardaí have indicated that preliminary assessments suggest they are not of Sikh origin. Further investigation is ongoing to clarify their background and nationalities.
The younger of the two, Mitesh Singh, had arrived on a flight from Oslo. Upon landing, he was referred to the GNIB by the Border Management Unit at Dublin Airport due to the absence of valid travel documents.
During the court proceedings, a Pashto-speaking interpreter was provided to assist the accused. Neither individual applied for bail. The court ordered that both men receive appropriate medical attention and remanded them in Garda custody. They are scheduled to appear in court again next week.
