Dublin: Cork University Hospital has introduced visitor restrictions following an outbreak of Norovirus affecting two wards, with additional wards currently under observation.
HSE South West is urging the public not to visit the hospital or other healthcare facilities if they are experiencing symptoms such as diarrhoea or vomiting in order to reduce the spread of the highly contagious virus and protect vulnerable patients.
Under the temporary measures, only one visitor per patient is permitted, with visiting hours limited to 2pm–4pm and 6pm–8pm. Visitors are also required to use hand sanitiser when entering and leaving the hospital.
Hospital CEO Jennifer Kearney said the restrictions are necessary to help control the spread of the infection and safeguard patients, staff and visitors. The measures will remain in place until the outbreak is brought under control.
