Washington: A new survey conducted by YouGov for Yahoo has found that 40 percent of Americans consider Donald Trump to be one of the worst presidents in US history. Only about one-third of respondents expressed a favourable opinion of the president.
According to the poll, 12 percent of participants described Trump as the best president, while 21 percent rated him as better than average. Supporters argue that his economic policies could help reduce the United States’ national debt, currently estimated at $38 trillion, potentially lowering it to $28 trillion.
The survey findings come at a politically sensitive time, as the Democratic Party seeks to regain a majority in United States Congress in the 2026 midterm elections. A loss of congressional control by the Republican Party would represent a significant setback for Trump, whose legislative agenda has relied heavily on Republican support in Congress.
Trump has previously stated that a Democratic victory in the midterms could lead to renewed impeachment efforts against him.
Analysts suggest that rising living costs and controversial anti-immigration measures, including developments in Minnesota, are among the key factors contributing to the decline in his approval ratings.
