Dublin: IDA Ireland has launched a new five-year strategy aimed at attracting 1,000 foreign direct investments (FDI), contributing €250 billion to the Irish economy, and supporting the creation of 75,000 new jobs. The plan also focuses on upskilling 40,000 workers to meet the evolving demands of key industries.
The strategy highlights digitalisation, AI, semiconductors, health, and sustainability as key growth sectors. With Ireland already established as a hub for semiconductors and life sciences, the country is well-positioned to capitalise on these opportunities. Additionally, renewable energy, particularly offshore wind, presents further investment potential.
Minister for Enterprise, Tourism, and Employment Peter Burke, TD, reaffirmed Ireland’s commitment to FDI as a cornerstone of economic growth, emphasising the country’s ability to adapt to global shifts and emerging technologies.
As part of the strategy, 550 investments will be directed to regional areas, ensuring balanced economic development. IDA also plans to increase research, development, and innovation (RD&I) funding to €7 billion, reinforcing Ireland’s role in global technological advancement.
IDA Ireland Chair Feargal O’Rourke stressed the importance of retaining existing companies, while CEO Michael Lohan highlighted the widespread impact of FDI on Ireland’s economy, calling for sustained partnerships to drive future growth.
