Belfast: Cricket Ireland has confirmed that the two-match T20 International series between India and Ireland will proceed as scheduled in Belfast, easing recent concerns over security arrangements in the city. The matches will be played at Stormont Cricket Ground on June 26 and June 28, with officials stating that there is currently no security threat to the fixtures.
The Indian team has already departed for Belfast via London ahead of the series. This will mark the first time India and Ireland face each other in an international match in Belfast, having previously met only in Dublin. Stormont Cricket Ground has a seating capacity of approximately 4,200 spectators.
The confirmation follows a comprehensive review of the security situation in Belfast after civil disturbances earlier this month prompted questions about whether the series could go ahead. Cricket Ireland said it had received assurances that there are no planned protests or demonstrations expected to impact match-day operations.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi Set for Potential Historic Debut
The series could also witness a historic milestone for Indian cricket. Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi is expected to feature in the T20I squad and could make his senior international debut during the series. If selected, he would become the youngest player ever to represent India, surpassing the record previously held by Sachin Tendulkar.
Enhanced Security Measures in Place
Cricket Ireland emphasised that extensive security arrangements have been put in place for the series and that the safety of players, officials, spectators and staff remains the highest priority.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland will continue to work closely with venue management and security partners throughout the event.
In a statement, Cricket Ireland said it is satisfied that both matches can be staged safely and successfully, adding that there is no specific threat to the teams, officials, fans or the venue.
Fans Encouraged to Follow Official Updates
Cricket Ireland has advised supporters to follow official communication channels for match updates and to allow additional travel time if required. The governing body described the series as an exciting celebration of international cricket and welcomed fans from around the world to Belfast for the occasion.
