Dublin: Met Éireann has forecast temperatures in the low 30s this weekend, potentially approaching Ireland’s all-time high of 33.3°C, recorded at Kilkenny Castle in 1887. A Status Yellow high-temperature warning has been issued for Saturday across much of the country.
The hottest day this year was already logged at 29.6°C in Roscommon on June 20, surpassing last year’s summer peak of 26.6°C.
Health and safety officials are urging precautions, especially for vulnerable groups such as infants, the elderly, and those with health conditions. The HSE and IPU have advised staying indoors during peak heat, hydrating regularly, using sunscreen, and keeping pets cool.
Road Safety Authorities have warned motorists about sun glare risks, while veterinarians stress the danger of heatstroke in pets, particularly dogs left outside or in hot vehicles.
The public is advised to avoid outdoor activity between 11am and 3pm, use sun protection, and monitor both personal health and animal welfare closely throughout the heatwave.
