Lidl Ireland Announces €600M Investment for Expansion

Dublin: Lidl Ireland has unveiled plans for a €600 million investment over the next five years, including the development of 35 new stores and a regional distribution centre in Cork worth €200 million. This initiative aims to enhance logistics in the south and southeast regions while supporting ongoing expansion.

According to CEO Robert Ryan, Lidl will open 12 new stores in the next 12 months, including locations in Carndonagh (Donegal), Moycullen (Galway), Ballybough (Dublin), and a second store in Wexford town, among others. The latest addition, Enfield in Co. Meath, is now operational. Each new store will create 35-40 jobs, contributing significantly to local employment.

Lidl’s Supplier and Business Partner Impact Report 2024 revealed a €1.67 billion investment in Irish goods and services, with €1.2 billion spent on Irish agri-food products, marking a 7% increase year on year. Additionally, Irish exports to Lidl stores worldwide reached €360 million, up nearly 5%.

Lidl continues to support local businesses through its Kickstart Supplier Development Programme, which, in 2024, helped 45 Irish producers showcase their products in over 200 Lidl stores. One notable success story is Naked Bakes, which secured a €700,000 permanent listing in 223 Lidl stores after participating in the programme.

Bord Bia CEO Jim O’Toole commended Lidl’s commitment to strengthening Irish supplier partnerships, emphasising its role in driving economic growth and expanding export opportunities.

With a current network of 180 stores, Lidl Ireland is set for significant growth, reinforcing its position as a key player in retail investment, local business support, and job creation.
