Dublin: The Irish government has announced the appointment of two new ministers of state following last month’s cabinet reshuffle, which was triggered by the resignation of Michael Healy-Rae after controversy surrounding fuel price protests and a subsequent no-confidence vote against the government.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin confirmed the appointment of Niall Collins as Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture. The Limerick TD, who previously served as a junior minister at the Department of Justice, will now oversee responsibilities including forestry, agricultural safety, and horticulture.
In a further appointment, Catherine Ardagh has been named Minister of State at the Department of Justice. Ardagh, a solicitor and TD for Dublin South-Central, entered the Dáil in 2024 and previously served as a member of the Seanad.
Speaking following her appointment, Ardagh said she was pleased to have the opportunity to work alongside Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan as the department continues to advance key areas of reform and public policy.
Announcing the changes, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said he was confident that both ministers would make a valuable contribution to the government’s priorities and help deliver on its policy objectives.
Former Minister of State Michael Healy-Rae also congratulated the new appointees and extended his best wishes to the officials and staff of the Department of Agriculture, as well as Agriculture Minister Martin Heydon, as they continue their work in the sector.
