Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that Hamas is ready for peace, urging Israel to “immediately” suspend its bombing campaign in Gaza. The announcement follows Hamas’s reported agreement to key elements of Trump’s proposed ceasefire plan.
According to Hamas, the group is prepared to accept several provisions of the plan, including the release of hostages and the transfer of administrative control of Gaza to an alternative governing authority.
President Trump has issued a stern ultimatum, warning Hamas that it must accept the Gaza peace deal or face “all hell”. He has set a deadline of tomorrow for the group to make its decision. International media outlets report that if Hamas complies, Israel may allow humanitarian aid, including food and medical supplies, to enter Gaza to alleviate the ongoing crisis.
While Hamas is expected to partially endorse the ceasefire proposal under pressure, analysts believe that extensive negotiations and political restructuring will be needed to secure lasting peace.
Despite growing hopes for de-escalation, civilians in Gaza remain fearful that airstrikes and ground assaults could resume, undermining the fragile prospects of stability.
There are indications that the United Nations and the European Union are preparing to support Trump’s peace framework, potentially accompanying it with expanded humanitarian aid and reconstruction funding. Global attention is now fixed on Hamas’s response and Israel’s reaction. Experts suggest that increasing international pressure could help bring an end to the long-running conflict and restore calm to the region.
Trump’s 20-Point Peace Plan
President Trump’s ceasefire initiative outlines a 20-point framework aimed at ending the two-year-old Gaza war. He has given Hamas until 6 p.m. (U.S. time) on Sunday to accept the deal, warning of “serious consequences” if it fails to do so.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the proposal as “the last chance for peace”, adding, “If they refuse, hell will rain down on Hamas like never before.”
“Hamas has been a brutal and violent force in the Middle East for years,” Trump said. “They have made life unbearable for innocent people. The massacre in Israel on October 7, where children, women, and the elderly were slaughtered, was the breaking point. One way or another, peace will come to the Middle East. Release all the hostages and the bodies now.”
Israel has reportedly accepted the Trump plan, which calls for:
- The release of all hostages within 72 hours,
- The disarmament of Hamas, and
- The establishment of an interim Gaza government under international supervision.
Hamas has expressed conditional approval, agreeing to the release of hostages and transfer of governance, but has requested further negotiations on several points. The group has not confirmed whether it will comply with the disarmament clause, and Trump has not indicated whether he is open to renegotiating the plan’s terms.
In a statement, Hamas welcomed Trump’s efforts to end the war and expressed readiness to engage in talks through mediators. The group also said it is willing to hand over Gaza’s administration to an independent authority supported by Arab and Islamic nations, based on Palestinian national consensus.
