22 people arrested in Dublin and Cork on Sunday for public order offenses

DUBLIN: Twenty-two people were arrested in Dublin and Cork yesterday (Sunday) following another day of public order violations. Of the 22 people arrested, 14 were from Dublin, including three juveniles, and eight from Cork. However, Gardai said the situation in Cork was calm yesterday compared to Dublin.

In a statement, An Garda Síochána said that gardai dealt with crowds in Stephen’s Green, Temple Bar, and South William Street due to “public safety concerns and sporadic public order incidents”.

“Gardaí encountered significant numbers of groups of youths (teenage and younger adults) who were loitering around the city centre, not involved in outdoor dining/ socializing,” the statement read. Seven of the 14 people arrested in Dublin were charged and will face court, while the remaining four received an adult caution.

At the same time, the statement said that a large number of people gathered throughout Dublin City Centre were following health guidelines and enjoying outdoor amenities.

Gardai said the situation in Cork was “relatively calm”, with no significant incidents reported. However, eight people were arrested for public order offences in the city centre. Garda officers patrolled major amenities in the city during the day and engaged with locals and businesses, the statement said.
