Dublin: 3,600 people from 143 countries officially become Irish citizens during ceremonies at the Convention Centre in Dublin. These are the 17th citizenship ceremonies this year, with over 11,400 individuals granted citizenship in 2023. Retired Justice Paddy McMahon administered the Declaration of Fidelity, while Ministers Helen McEntee, Joe O’Brien, and Neale Richmond represented the government.
Minister McEntee expressed her pride in welcoming the new citizens, emphasising their contributions to Irish society. Minister O’Brien also highlighted the importance of inclusion and thanked the new citizens for choosing Ireland as their home.
Significant improvements to the citizenship process have been made, including a new online platform. Since 2011, around 180,000 people have been granted Irish citizenship. Among today’s top nationalities are India (502), the UK (338), and Brazil (293), with Dublin, Cork, Meath, and Limerick seeing the most applications.
