IPL 2021 to resume in UAE in September-October

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the remaining Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 matches will be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in September-October of this year.

The decision was made during the BCCI’s Special General Meeting (SGM) in view of the monsoon season in India during the scheduled months, as well as the second wave of COVID-19.

The 14th edition of the IPL was postponed on May 4 because several players and support staff from various teams tested positive for COVID-19. There are 31 matches that are yet to be played in this season. The IPL was also played in the UAE last year and it went smoothly.

The non-availability of foreign players will be the biggest obstacle in the remaining games. England and Wales Cricket Board has already stated that it won’t release their players, whereas Australia has yet to make a decision on the matter. Australian cricketer Pat Cummins announced today that he will not be available for the remainder of the IPL 2021.

However, it is known that franchises can take replacements for unavailable players, and a final statement on this will be made following a meeting between the board and team managements.
