Veteran Indian actress Surekha Sikri dies of cardiac arrest at 75

MUMBAI: Veteran theater-cinema-television actress Surekha Sikri (76) passed away this morning after suffering a cardiac arrest. Surekha, who had been undergoing treatment for paralysis for the past two years, breathed her last at her residence in Mumbai.

The three-time national award winner had a paralytic stroke earlier in 2018 and was hospitalised for some time after suffering a second brain stroke in 2020.

Surekha, who graduated from the Delhi School of Drama, made her acting debut in 1978 with Kissa Kursi Ka.

She has received several prestigious awards, including three National Film Awards for Best Supporting Actress for her performances in Tamas (1988), Mammo (1995), and Badhaai Ho (2018), as well as a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Role in Badhaai Ho.

She was last seen in Netflix”s anthology Ghost Stories (2020) directed by Zoya Akhtar.
