SpiceJet – First airline to operate a long haul cargo flight from Amsterdam to Mumbai

Budget carrier SpiceJet with two achievements in a row. Along with the recognition of being the first Airline to operate a long-haul cargo flight from Amsterdam to Mumbai, the Buget carrier SpiceJet now also hold the record for the first non-stop cargo flight from Europe in dedicated freighter.

The long-haul service was operated by the wide-body aircraft Airbus A340. It also flew Sunday at 11.47am from Mumbai to Khartoum, Sudan.

SpiceJet had added Netherland to the international freight server. The Airline left the Duth capital for Mumbai at 10.50pm (local time) with 13 tonnes of cargo.

Ajay Singh, chairman and managing director of SpiceJet, said that the first long-haul wide-body flight from Europe was a success.

“The induction of our first Airbus A340 cargo aircraft has significantly enhanced our operational capability and will allow us to operate non-stop cargo services across the globe to destinations in Europe, Africa and CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries,” he added.

Spicejet’s first non-stop flight to Africa was carrying 40 tonnes of cargo. Prior to this, the low cost carrier had flawn to Sudan via Ras-Al-Khaimmah in UAE.

Since March 25, India has operated more than 5,764 cargo flights which carried medicines, medical equipment, fruits and vegetables to various parts of India and transported over 31,800 tonnes of cargo.

According to SpiceJet, it is more than twice the number of all domestic airlines put together.
