After multinational corporations, now Amazon starts firing employees

New York: Amazon is also laying off workers as a result of the financial crisis. The multinational corporation intends to lay off 10,000 workers by this week.

According to reports, Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa, retail division, and human resources will be cut. However, the company has not yet specified how many people will lose their livelihoods. Amazon is expected to be the US company with the most layoffs as a result of the economic downturn. But there was no indication of layoffs. As of December 31 of last year, Amazon had 1.6 million employees, including full-time and part-time.

Last week, Facebook and Meta Platforms announced job cuts totaling over 11,000 people. Elon Musk-owned Twitter, Microsoft, and Snap also laid off employees.

The decision to freeze recruitment came after reports that business would slow down during the holiday season, which is supposed to be the busiest. It was estimated that due to higher inflation, there would be less business for consumers and businesses.

Ireland and Amazon

In September 2004, Amazon opened its first office in Ireland. Amazon employs about 5,000 people in Ireland. Amazon opened a new warehouse and processing centre in Dublin earlier this year, employing 500 people. In April 2006, it opened a customer service centre in Cork, followed by Amazon Web Services in November 2007. Amazon established its first infrastructure region outside of the United States in Ireland.
