More than one million non-EU citizens were advised to leave the European Union: Reports
Brussels: Between January 2020 and September 2022, more than one million non-EU citizens were advised to leave the European Union, Eurostat reports.
Non-EU nationals who have illegally entered and are staying in these EU countries have been ordered to leave.
Those who did not comply with residency or visa requirements, as well as those who were arrested for crimes, were subjected to the same judicial process.
In 2021, 681200 non-EU citizens were ordered to leave the EU, a 22% increase over 2020. Meanwhile, in 2022, 342100 non-EU citizens were ordered to leave the territory of EU member states.
Many EU member states ordered around 2,800 UK nationals to leave the EU following Brexit.
France and Sweden compelled…
During the preceding two-year period, France issued the most leave orders to non-EU nationals. However, Sweden and the Netherlands were the harshest on the British.
According to the data, the most non-EU nationals stayed illegally in France (215 200), Hungary (134 100), and Germany (120 300) in 2021; in these three Member States alone, 69% stayed illegally.
Of the 2,250 British citizens ordered to leave EU countries between the first quarter of 2020 and the third quarter of 2022, 1,050 lived in Sweden.
Expelled UK nationals were 115 in Malta, 95 in France, 65 in Belgium, 40 in Denmark, 25 in Germany, and 10 in Austria.
The UK officially left the EU on January 31, 2020, at midnight, but free movement with the EU continued until December 31, 2020, the end of the post-Brexit transition period. Travel restrictions were in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, so there were no major issues during this time.
