NCT: The wait is not over even after six months…

DUBLIN: The government wants to curb the ongoing trend of NCT clearance checks for vehicles being completed within 12 days of booking, contrary to the agreement with the government. The National Car Testing Service (NCTS) has clarified that the backlog will be eliminated and NCT tests will be normal by June.

Despite the fact that existing staffing has been adjusted to account for staffing shortages, only one-third of available appointments can now be handled, and two-thirds of currently available slots can only be filled by occupancy.

Available slots can be booked online. The remaining two-thirds of NCTS slots will be opened only after it is certain that there will be enough inspectors to meet the full capacity, NCTS said.

Applus+, the private company contracted to implement the NCT, has apologised for an unfeasible backlog of NCT clearance certificates for 375,000 cars.

An NCTS spokesperson insisted that normal wait times would be reduced slightly by June as more staff were brought on board.

“After Easter, the situation will begin to improve.” “We will return to normal service by June,” he said, adding that the current average wait time is about 25 days, and with the normal wait time approaching, vehicles will be inspected within 12 days of submitting an application for the test.

Car owners who want to schedule NCT appointments now have to wait six months.

Applus+ would be fined for “absolutely unacceptable” booking delays, according to Junior Transport Minister Jack Chambers.
