‘Breastfeeding mothers’ in Ireland get an extra hour’s break for up to two years
DUBLIN – As part of the new Work-Life Balance Act, workers in Ireland will be given more breastfeeding breaks and new unpaid leave rights.
As part of the new legislation, working women’s right to breastfeeding breaks will be increased from six months to two years. Working and breastfeeding women are entitled to one hour of paid leave per day after giving birth. Breastfeeding breaks can be taken in three 20-minute intervals, or one 60-minute interval or two 30-minute intervals.
In addition, parents and carers will have a new right to unpaid leave for medical purposes as part of the new scheme.
