‘Storm Betty’: Heavy rain continues in various counties of Ireland
Dublin: Reports of ‘Storm Betty’, which unexpectedly hit different parts of Ireland yesterday, partially affected people’s lives in the country.
The government’s National Emergency Group has issued a warning that strong winds and rain could lead to additional flooding. Wind and rain warnings have been issued for Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Tipperary, Wexford, Carlow, Kilkenny, and Wicklow.
Some major roads in Cork have been blocked since yesterday evening. Cork City Fire Brigade said there was flooding at Greenhills Court off South Douglas Road and the Riverview Estate.
Cork City Council’s road crews and fire brigade are on alert in flood zones.
There were reports of downed trees in Glanmire and flooding on the Crosshaven-Carrigaline road in the county.
The council stated that emergency crews were ready to respond to potential wind damage.
In Dungarvan, Waterford, an accident occurred when a boat left its berth and ran into the harbour.
Storm Betty caused concern as it passed through the southern counties. According to reports, 40 mm of rain fell across the country, with some areas receiving more than 60 mm.
Rain will continue to fall heavily or thunderously in Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, and Connacht until 12 noon on Saturday. A yellow alert has been issued for these areas. In counties such as Dublin and Cork, light rain is also possible.
