Ireland Raises the Army Enlistment Age Limit: New Opportunities for Recruits

Dublin: The Irish government has unveiled a strategic policy aimed at bolstering recruitment and retention within the Irish Defence Forces. Among the key measures is an adjustment in the age limit for entry into the Permanent Defence Force, raising it from the existing 29 years to 35 years. This pivotal change is part of an overarching effort to enhance the armed forces.

As of the close of August 2023, Ireland’s regular defence force comprises just under ten thousand personnel, including 6,221 Army members, 755 Navy personnel, and 695 Air Corps personnel. The government’s aspiration is to modernise and strengthen the standing defence force, setting an ambitious target of 11,500 personnel by the year 2028. These initiatives reflect a comprehensive strategy to fortify the nation’s security and military capabilities.
