Amazon to Create 200 New Jobs in Dublin as Irish Starting Wages Rise

Dublin: Online retail giant Amazon is set to create 200 new jobs across its operations in Dublin, with recruitment for the positions already under way.

The new roles will be spread across Amazon’s main fulfilment centre in Baldonnel and its delivery centres in Rathcoole and Ballycoolin. The majority of the new employees will be based at the Baldonnel fulfilment centre.

The Baldonnel facility opened in 2022 with around 500 employees and has since grown to a workforce of approximately 700. The latest recruitment drive is expected to further expand Amazon’s presence in the Dublin logistics and delivery sector.

Alongside the jobs announcement, Amazon has confirmed an increase in its minimum starting wage for frontline operations staff in Ireland.

From September 27, the minimum starting rate will rise to €17.10 per hour, an increase of 65 cents on the current rate. Amazon said its starting wage in Ireland has increased by approximately 27 per cent since 2022.

The company currently employs around 6,500 people across Ireland, making it one of the country’s major private-sector employers.

The latest announcement comes against the backdrop of previous global cost-cutting measures that had raised concerns about potential job losses in Ireland. In January, reports indicated that around 300 Irish positions could be at risk as part of Amazon’s worldwide efforts to reduce costs. A previous round of global layoffs had also resulted in around 150 job losses in Ireland.

The creation of 200 new positions in Dublin therefore marks a significant expansion of the company’s workforce, despite those earlier concerns.

The combination of new employment opportunities and higher starting wages is expected to provide a boost to jobseekers, particularly those looking for work in logistics, warehousing and delivery operations across Dublin.
