Harley Davison plans for Indian Exit

American luxury two-wheeler company Harley Davidson is closing down their Indian market.

As part of this, the company has decided to close its vehicle manufacturing facility at Bawal in Haryana. Harley-Davidson said it would notify users about this and inform them of future plans.

The company has sold 25,000 units in a decade of presence in India and today has 33 dealerships that could be closed or significantly reduced.

The company said in a statement that it was planning to close the Bavali plant and reduce the number of employees at its sales headquarters in Gurugram.

In a statement, the company said that, “Harley-Davidson plans to close its manufacturing facility in Bawal and significantly reduce the size of its sales office in Gurgaon. The company is communicating with its customers in India and will keep them updated on future support.” 

However, the company said it would continue to operate dealerships in India until the end of the contract. This is seen as the part of a move to change and rebuilt the Harley-Davidson company’s working style and market structure.

Although the business model in India is changing, the company is looking at possible steps to ensure service to existing customers.
