“Yellow Alert Issued for Snow and Heavy Rain Across Ireland”
Dublin: A yellow alert has been issued today across multiple counties in Ireland, with the Met Eireann weather forecasting agency warning of significant snow and rain. Winter conditions are expected to grip the nation.
A status yellow snow-ice warning will be in effect for several regions, including Clare, Tipperary, Galway, Roscommon, Mayo, Portlaoise, Offaly, Westmeath, and Wicklow, starting from 3 a.m. and lasting until 1 p.m. tomorrow.
Additionally, a special status yellow snow-ice warning has been issued for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, and Longford from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. today. Snowfall is anticipated, particularly in elevated areas of these counties.
Furthermore, a status yellow rain warning has been enacted at 5 a.m. today covering Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Meath, Wexford, and Wicklow, set to remain in effect until 5 a.m. on Friday. The combination of rain, snow, and easterly winds may lead to localised flooding, according to the weather centre.
Across the border, the UK Met Office has also issued a yellow warning for snow and sleet in Northern Ireland, anticipating disruptions from tomorrow morning into Friday. Up to three centimetres of ice accumulation is forecasted.
Given the heavy rainfall, the extent of ice may be limited to Ulster by Friday.
