Everyone in Ireland gets a pay raise from this month..

Dublin: The Public Service Committee, comprising 19 public sector unions affiliated with the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, has greenlit a pay increase set to boost the salaries of the country’s 385,000 public sector employees starting April.

Under the approved plan, Gardaí, teachers, nurses, doctors, civil servants, TDs, senators, judges, defense forces personnel, and local government officials are slated to receive a cumulative pay rise of 10.25% over two and a half years. The comprehensive agreement, spanning four years, entails an estimated expenditure of €3.6 billion.

The new contract, effective from January 1st to June 30th, 2026, initiates with a 2.25% salary hike (equivalent to €1,125) this year, with arrears from January 1st disbursed promptly. As per the accord, Kevin Callinan, Chairman of the Public Service Committee and General Secretary of FORSA, stands to receive a total salary increase of 4.25% this year.

Furthermore, it’s stipulated that employees earning below €50,000 annually could witness a substantial salary increase of up to 17.3%. Arrangements for local bargaining, tailored to individual employee submissions, are slated for approval by June 30th, with deliberations scheduled from July to June of the following year.

Per the terms of the new contract, commencing January 1st, all public sector employees are entitled to a retroactive salary hike of 2.25% or €1,125 annually (whichever is higher). On June 1st, a further 1% salary increase will be implemented, followed by an additional 1% raise on October 1st (equivalent to €500).

Next year, on March 1st, all employees will receive a 2% salary hike (up to €1,000), followed by another 1% increase (€500) on August 1st. Additionally, on September 1st, an amount equivalent to 1% of the basic salary will be disbursed as a local bargaining payment. Finally, on June 1st, 2026, another 1% salary increment will be effected.
