Regional Passenger Plane Crashes Near São Paulo, Brazil, Killing All 61 On Board

A regional passenger plane carrying 61 people crashed near São Paulo, Brazil, on Friday, killing all aboard, according to local officials. Video on social media showed the ATR-made plane spiralling out of control before crashing near Valinhos, where only one home was damaged but no residents were injured.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expressed condolences and called for a moment of silence for the victims. The Voepass flight had departed from Cascavel, Paraná, bound for São Paulo’s main international airport, but crashed about 80 km northwest of the city in Vinhedo. The cause of the crash remains unknown, and the aircraft was identified as an ATR 72-500. Seven fire crews were dispatched to the crash site.
