Poland Warns Against Using Intermediaries for Schengen Visa Applications

Warsaw: The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a firm warning discouraging the use of intermediaries for Schengen visa applications, following growing concerns over black-market visa sales. Polish authorities emphasised that visa applications submitted through third-party agents, travel agencies, or employment firms will not receive preferential treatment.

The directive comes amid widespread complaints that unauthorised intermediaries are manipulating the visa appointment system and charging exorbitant fees, creating a false impression that their involvement increases the chances of visa approval.

Embassy Measures to Combat Abuse

The Polish Embassy in India, along with the Consulate General in Mumbai, has announced the introduction of a dedicated mechanism aimed at curbing black-market practices. Officials clarified that no collaboration will be undertaken with unauthorised agencies and stressed that all applications must follow the official process.

“The embassy does not recognise or cooperate with intermediaries, including travel or visa consultancy firms,” a statement read. “Every visa application is reviewed individually, based solely on the merits of the information provided. There is no special pathway or advantage for applications submitted through third parties.”

Furthermore, the embassy reiterated that only official consular fees apply and that no additional charges are required or valid during the application process.

New IT System to Prevent Visa Slot Manipulation

To enhance transparency and curb the exploitation of visa appointments, a new IT system is being developed. This system will incorporate advanced electronic services, including biometric verification, to ensure that appointment slots are allocated fairly and are not hoarded or resold by intermediaries.

The new system is expected to launch initially in high-risk migration countries, such as India, the Philippines, and Uzbekistan, before being rolled out more broadly based on its effectiveness.
