TCS to Cut 12,000 Jobs Globally Amid Shift Toward AI
Dublin: India-based IT giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced plans to reduce its global workforce by approximately 2%, or around 12,000 employees, during the current financial year. The cuts will primarily impact middle- and senior-level roles.
Impact on Irish Operations Unclear
TCS employs over 1,000 people in Ireland across Dublin, Cork, Galway, Donegal, and Athlone. The company has not confirmed whether Irish staff will be affected by the layoffs.
TCS CEO K. Krithivasan cited evolving work practices and growing AI adoption as key drivers behind the restructuring. Despite significant investment in employee upskilling, certain roles have proven difficult to redeploy.
TCS reported over $30 billion in revenue for the financial year ending March 2025. AI and generative AI are fuelling growth, with increasing demand for AI-driven solutions.
Expansion in Ireland Continues
TCS has operated in Ireland since 2001, with major growth marked by its 2020 acquisition of Donegal-based Pramerica. The company continues to invest locally, including a recent government contract to manage the state’s pension auto-enrolment system.
In June, TCS partnered with Nvidia to develop advanced AI solutions for telecom clients, further emphasising its strategic pivot toward artificial intelligence technologies.
