Met Éireann Issues Rain Warning for Cork and Kerry as Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Forecast
Dublin: Met Éireann has warned of heavy rain and thunderstorms across parts of Ireland, with a Status Yellow rain warning issued for Cork and Kerry from 9am to 9pm on Saturday.
Forecasters said persistent rain will become heavier at times, potentially affecting outdoor events and causing localised flooding, waterlogging and travel disruption.
Rain that began in western parts of the country on Friday night is expected to spread to other regions. While the south-east is likely to remain largely dry through the morning, rain will arrive later, accompanied by strengthening south-westerly winds.
As the rain moves southwards on Saturday, conditions in northern areas are expected to improve, with some sunny intervals developing. Daytime temperatures will range between 16 and 21 degrees Celsius.
Drier Conditions Expected on Sunday
Most parts of the country are expected to turn dry on Saturday night as the remaining rain clears from southern areas. Overnight temperatures will fall to between 9 and 13 degrees.
On Sunday, rain will ease across most areas, although some places may experience light drizzle. There will be occasional spells of sunshine, with temperatures again reaching 16 to 21 degrees Celsius.
Motorists Urged to Take Care
Motorists are being advised to exercise extreme caution in areas affected by heavy rain. Sudden flooding, surface water, reduced visibility and waterlogged roads could make driving conditions hazardous.
People planning weekend trips or outdoor activities are also advised to check the latest weather updates and warnings before travelling.
Strong south-westerly winds are expected to affect coastal areas and waters, adding to potentially challenging conditions in exposed locations.
