Delays in issuance of Atypical work permit for nurses in Ireland may be avoided
DUBLIN: Indications are that applicants for an Atypical work permit in Ireland will begin to receive it within three to five days.
In December, Migrant Nurses Ireland, through INMO, raised the need to revise existing Atypical work permit rules, which create a number of difficulties for Indian nurses working in Ireland. With the support of the INMO, Rachel Kenna, the Chief Nursing Officer of Ireland, also discussed the matter with the Department of Justice.
As a result, Migrant Nurses Ireland officials said many job seekers have now certified that they will receive Atypical work permit within three to five days of applying for it. The organisation of private nursing homes had also asked the government to avoid delays in issuing Atypical work permits.
Currently, Atypical work permit can be issued within 20 days, according to the department’s website. But in recent months this period has been extended indefinitely. It was in the wake of this that nursing organisations intervened in the issue.
Migrant Nurses Ireland said it would continue to work to resolve the issue of those who have Atypical work permit being unable to work until they have obtained an employment permit once they have been registered.
Newly hired nurses were delayed in getting their PPS numbers, which stopped them from receiving their wages in their bank accounts and receiving their COVID payments. The organization officials revealed that the issue was raised before the Department of Social Protection as a result of the efforts of Migrant Nurses Ireland and all the complainants were immediately given a PPS number.
