Just Eat launches drone delivery services; orders will reach delivery point within three minutes

GALWAY: The country’s first drone delivery service has been launched in Oranmore, Co Galway.

Ireland’s leading food ordering and delivery service Just Eat has partnered with Manna (world’s first aviation-grade B2B drone delivery ‘as-a-service’ platform) and Camile Thai to launch the new venture.

The new drone service company claims that any delivery within a 2 km radius will reach the delivery point directly within 3 minutes. This is a great twist from the traditional Just Eat takeaway service.

Users can select their dishes from the Camile Thai drone delivery menu page on the Just Eat app. The service is available from 4pm to 8pm, from Thursday to Sunday.

With the advent of drone delivery, the question arises as to whether the delivery workers will lose their jobs.

With the availability of Just Eat drone delivery to customers in Oranmore, Galway, there are concerns that those working in the delivery sector will be affected by the reform.

Just Eat had previously tested the drone in South Dublin on an experimental basis.

Most of the delivery staff think that such experiments prove to be just a ‘publicity stunt’ of some food delivery companies like Just Eat and Camile!

The market price of an aerospace grade drone ranges from one thousand to seven thousand euros.

Just Eat Managing Director Amanda Roche-Kelly said: “We’re thrilled to see this exciting partnership with Manna get off the ground and delighted that our Camile Thai customers in Oranmore will be the first to enjoy this new delivery option right to their door.”

“We’re really proud to be the world’s first online food platform providing this option to our customers in partnership with Manna,” MD Roche-Kelly added.

Bobby Healy, CEO & Founder of Manna said: “Drone delivery is now a welcome part of everyday life for the people in Oranmore. We introduced the service to the town back in October and have a 98.5% approval rating from our customers of all ages.”

“Drones are a safe, greener, faster, and more private delivery solution and create jobs for local retailers to boot,” Mr. Healy said.

Drone delivery is a modified version of the robot delivery system that Just Eat was ready to test a few years ago.
