“Think safe, think outdoors”: Government with hope and optimism to make summer more beautiful
DUBLIN: Ireland is reopening to new avenues of hope and optimism by easing restrictions. The government has put forward the slogan “Think safe, think outdoors”. The government’s move is aimed at allaying people’s fears and activating the outside world.
The B117 variant identified in the UK now accounts for the majority of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ireland. This variant is 70% more transmissible than the original variant of the virus. This variant makes people more sick.
However, there is some relief in comparison to last year. Last year, the number of COVID patients reached up to 6,500 per day. An average of 220 of them were admitted to the ICU. The government decided to lift restrictions with keeping all these tragic pictures in mind. This is why the government is urging people to “Think safe, think outdoors”.
Slowly opening…
The government aims to bring people back to public life through a continuous and slow process. On the one hand, the government was tightening the rules and imposing fines for violations, but on the other hand, the government was thinking about ways to relax the restrictions. Experts testify that Ireland has taken careful steps in this regard.
Five and a half weeks ago, the government decided to allow six people for indoor weddings and then, nine weeks later, it started thinking about indoor hospitality in bars and restaurants. International travel is also being considered now.
It is also worth noting that many employees have developed the perception that working from home would have been better if it had been possible at any point in the future.
The number of COVID-19 patients was 375 when the Level 5 restrictions were lifted last November, but this week it is 430.
Vaccination is about strength and hope
The rapid progress of vaccination continues to provide encouragement and hope. Taoiseach Micheál Martin says it is a great achievement to be able to give the first doses of the vaccine to 30% of people over the age of 16. Taoiseach said that more than 1.5 million doses of the vaccine had been administered in Ireland as of Thursday.
International studies have shown that the country will be safe if the 80% of the population is vaccinated. This week alone, 3,55,000 doses of various vaccines will arrive in Ireland. 190,000 doses of the Pfizer mRNA vaccine arrived on Tuesday. Ireland will receive 165,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses will tomorrow.
HSE has formulated action plans to get it to the people as soon as possible. The HSE aims to administer about 95% of the vaccines received within seven days.
Whenever a vaccine dose is administered, the possibility of reactivating the economy and reopening society increases. The HSE reveals that 97% of people aged 85 and over were given the first dose and 89% the second dose. 100% of people between 75 and 84 years of age were given first dose. First doses of vaccine were also administered to 68% of 65-to-74-year-olds, 20% of 55-to-64-year-olds, 16% of 45-to-50-year-olds, and 12% of 20-to-44-year-olds.
Experts point out that vaccination has started to show positive results. About 55% of those hospitalised with COVID-19 were people over 65 years of age. However, reports indicate that they are now safe.
Half of those who died from COVID-19 were over the age of 88, and 92% of those who died were over the age of 65. But the HSE has now revealed that this category is highly secure. About 12% of health workers have been infected with the disease and are now in the safe zone. The online vaccine booking portal for people between the ages of 50 and 59 in Ireland will open next week.
