Taoiseach Micheál Martin received his first dose of COVID-19 vaccine
DUBLIN: Taoiseach Micheál Martin has received his first dose of COVID-19 vaccine from the Cork City Hall vaccination centre at 12pm yesterday. He will receive a second dose of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in 12 weeks.
The Taoiseach stated that Ireland is making significant progress in reducing the number of COVID-19 cases. He added that if we continue to follow the public health guidelines, Ireland will have a good summer this time around.
“Vaccination is working. It’s having a very good impact and we can see with the hospitalisation numbers, they’re in the right direction and the ICU numbers are down to low 30s now,” Mr. Martin said on RTÉ Radio One.
He said vaccination would make further progress as higher and higher volumes of vaccines arrive in the country in late May and June.
The Taoiseach said the HSE aims to deliver between 250,000 and 270,000 vaccine doses next week. He also said that their target is to administer the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine to 80% of adult population by the end of June.
Other leaders and politicians from around the world have also received their vaccine doses in recent weeks and months.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was fully vaccinated with Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin in April this year. UK PM Boris Johnson received his first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine in late March. US President Joe Biden received the vaccine in December 2020.
