Decline in number of COVID-19 hospital patients; no new deaths and 456 new cases confirmed yesterday
DUBLIN: The HSE has revealed that number of hospital patients with COVID-19 has dropped below 100 for the first time since September 24.
As of 8pm last night, there were 99 COVID-19 patients in hospitals, with 36 of them being treated in ICU. “Great to see the #COVID19 hospitalised numbers drop to 99 tonight & 36 in ICU,” tweeted HSE CEO Paul Reid.
“A clear demonstration that the vaccination programme has for now broken the link from daily cases to sickness, hospitalisations, ICU and mortality,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health confirmed 456 new COVID-19 cases in the Republic of Ireland yesterday. This brings the total number of virus cases to 254,450.
At the same time, no new COVID-19-related deaths were reported in Ireland. The death toll stands at 4,937.
Of the cases notified today, 233 are men and 223 are women. 81% of those tested positive were under 45 years of age and the average age was 27 years.
189 of the new cases are in Dublin, 52 are in Cork, 49 are in Donegal, 39 are in Kildare, 17 are in Galway and the remaining 110 cases are spread across 20 other counties.
Kildare has surpassed Donegal in terms of highest 14-day incidence rate. The incidence rate in Kildare is currently 253.3 and in Donegal it is 248.8.
