On Sunday evening, a century-old rope bridge in Gujarat’s Morbi collapsed, killing 91 people. The suspension bridge had only been restored a week before.
In a video, hundreds of people were seen leaping and rushing across the bridge yesterday. The cable bridge was swinging violently, and everything came crumbling down.
Following the collapse, authorities initiated a rescue effort, with divers sent to look for missing people.
Videos from the scene showed numerous people struggling in the water, attempting to reach the shore in the dark.
State minister Brijesh Merja stated that the administration accepts responsibility for the bridge collapse, adding that the turn of events has stunned them as well.
While on a visit to his home state of Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised compensation for those killed and injured in the disaster.
