A significant data breach has left Northern Ireland’s police officers “incredibly vulnerable.” The personal information of all active officers and staff members was exposed as a result of this breach. The Northern Ireland Police Service (PSNI) has accepted responsibility for the security breach and expressed sorrow for the information’s unintended disclosure. On Tuesday, this occurrence happened in response to a Freedom of Information (FOI) request.

The breach data includes all PSNI personnel’s last name, initials, position or grade, as well as work location and department details. Importantly, the breach did not include officers’ or civilians’ private addresses.

Furthermore, the exposed information reveals the identities of individuals within various units, including the organised crime unit, intelligence officers stationed at ports and airports, surveillance unit members, and nearly 40 PSNI staff members stationed at MI5’s headquarters in Hollywood, according to the Belfast Telegraph.
